Week 5

We discussed in groups today, the positions of roles and responsibilities needed to make the market function smoothly and in a way we are all communicating our ideas.

We looked at how different kinds of management systems worked and how we could implement it within our market. We did this by presenting our collected ideas we had formed within our teams and voted on those we thought would work well.

Our Stall

We initially had the idea of creating a collected art piece by whiting out a room where you would go in and write on a designated section with an invisible ink pen, and having a big reveal at the end.

We didn't stick with this idea for to long as we quickly figured out problems with the actual pens themselves ( they don't work very well).

So we decided to look into other ways of creating an experience. and began brainstorming what we believed to fit into the real of impossible things, and then we had an Epiphany...Travelling to places of myth and legend.

After dabbling in this idea, we thought about space as being one of the destinations. And quickly realised we could base the whole experience on the idea.

We then designated jobs for each other to work on over the weekend, and get together before class.

Abandoned Materials Market Critique

In the Abandoned Materials market showed a theme of abandoned childhood that across three levels which transported the customers back to a nostalgic feel of the 90’s and early 2000’s. The theme was an interesting take of the abandon materials but I felt that more thought had gone into the nostalgic memories than the abandon materials overall theme. Within the market itself there was recycled and reused materials retrieved from other markets to fill spaces which was a smart idea reusing materials as they “look at the everyday environment that surrounds us and see it as an artistic and cultural resource.” (The art in waste. Denise Scott Brown. Urban Distortions book. Basurama06).  Most stalls fitted one of four themes, hand/eye coordination games, polls/surveys, creative drawing/writing tasks and visual experience which meant that it was repetition of ideas through the stalls. Maybe this could have been avoided with better communication on the differences between the concepts of the ...
