Research & Meetups Over break

We discussed what was needed for our prototype and created this list of things we wanted to be done.

Jobs list:

Prototyping The booth

My job was to research the photo booth/look into materials we could use and how we could make the picture look. I looked into some old-fashioned type adverts that have modern technology within it. Sort of an impossible photo "what if technology was around back then"

I made a small prototype of the booth with an old photo from the paper moon booth.

Quick sketch and collage of some ideas for how to make the booth look and a suggested making of the moon with the stall. The "mr Nokia" advert is funny and kinda what we might be going for with the occulus with in an old photo.

Research On Travel Posters Through The Years
1920’s

In the 1920’s travel by luxury rail, ship and airplane became popular. Travel agents would promote different location by displaying bright colourful posters in the design style of the day, Art Deco.

Science fiction writers and artists have used the iconic 1920’s travel poster style to create Retro-inspired Space travel posters by Glen Oribik.

1950’s

Air travel was still very expensive and not attainable for everyone. 1950’s travel posters focused on the destination bright colourful posters with bold typeface. Colour photography and printing was still very expensive and most posters of the day followed a style of elegant conceptual abstract look in bold colours.

1970’s

The 1970’s saw the deregulation of the airlines which made air travel affordable for everyone. Travel posters followed the trend of the days which were for large photos of the destination taking up the bulk of the poster.

Abandoned Materials Market Critique

In the Abandoned Materials market showed a theme of abandoned childhood that across three levels which transported the customers back to a nostalgic feel of the 90’s and early 2000’s. The theme was an interesting take of the abandon materials but I felt that more thought had gone into the nostalgic memories than the abandon materials overall theme. Within the market itself there was recycled and reused materials retrieved from other markets to fill spaces which was a smart idea reusing materials as they “look at the everyday environment that surrounds us and see it as an artistic and cultural resource.” (The art in waste. Denise Scott Brown. Urban Distortions book. Basurama06).  Most stalls fitted one of four themes, hand/eye coordination games, polls/surveys, creative drawing/writing tasks and visual experience which meant that it was repetition of ideas through the stalls. Maybe this could have been avoided with better communication on the differences between the concepts of the ...
